Meet Alisha

The decision to move towards healthier relationships, increased clarity, and peace takes courage. At least it did for me. My own experience of trauma and healing, deeper connection to self and others, and increased peace and compassion has been profoundly impacted by therapy. This experience has given me a passion for research and understanding the process of change, not only for myself but also for others, leading me to become a therapist and clinical supervisor.

You might feel stuck in old patterns, in chaos with loved ones, or bogged down by powerful emotions and reactions that you just can not seem to shake. As your therapist I work to empower you to identify and live from your core values instead of in the chaos of coping. My hope and intention is to join with you and your goals for change.

FRAMEWORK

We know from research that memory is not only stored in our brain but also in our bodies. For this reason, I intentionally integrate our mind’s awareness of events and our body memory, in order to truly resolve the deeper, more tender hurts in our lives. When working with children I integrate play therapy, attachment based principles and Gordon Neufeld’s developmental psychology framework. When seeing couples I utilize an Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFT) approach, and am always integrating Systemic Family Therapy techniques which are heavily influenced by Satir Transformational Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, John Bowlby’s attachment research as well as many trauma focused work such as Bessel Van Der Kold , Pat Ogden, Danel Seigel’s, and more.

Additionally, sometimes we are stuck in old patterns because of difficult events we have experienced. When working with trauma I am trained to utilize Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and body based integration techniques in the process of healing the mind and the body.

Throughout my education and experience as a therapist and clinical supervisor I have come to really know that change is possible. Our capacity to grow and to heal exists as long as we have breath. For this reason I have chosen the name ‘Experience Change’ for my counselling practice.

SUPERVISION

Alisha has five years experience providing clinical supervision and is trained through the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Supervision Course. She works from an experiential, systemic framework, providing counsellors a safe place to process personal impacts, secondary trauma, case conceptualizations, and ethical issues.

If you are looking to add balance into your practice, strengthen specific counselling skills, or process an area that feels stuck, book a consultation conversation with Alisha to determine if working with her will be a good fit in enhancing your experience and growth as a therapist.
